Impact of inclined double-cutoff walls under hydraulic structures on uplift forces, seepage discharge and exit hydraulic gradient

چکیده

In hydraulic structures design, using cutoff walls is essential to reduce and control the resultant uplift force (U), seepage discharge (Q), exit gradient (i). This research investigates effectiveness of inclined double under structures, considering influence depths, locations, inclination angles upstream downstream by Finite Element Method (FEM). The results confirmed that installing a deeper wall on reduces even further. case located in ends, will be less than when are installed at closer distance. Increasing angle has major impact reduction. Embedment ends with right equal depths more other cases.

Optimal hydraulic structures profiles under uncertain seepage head

Most of the hydraulic structures are founded on permeable foundation. There is, however, no procedure to fix the basic barrage parameters, which are depth of sheet piles/cutoffs and the length and thickness of floor, in a cost-effective manner. Changes in hydrological and climatic factors may alter the design seepage head of the hydraulic structures. The variation in seepage head affects the do...

Numerical Simulation of Effect of Drain Pipe in Uplift Force and Exit Hydraulic Gradient in Gravity Dams

In this study, the effects of diameter and location of drain pipe in uplift force and exit hydraulic gradient in the foundation of gravity dams are investigated. For this purpose, a numerical model of gravity dam foundation is simulated using finite elements method. The results indicate that drain pipe under the gravity dam reduces the uplift force and exit hydraulic gradient. Location of the d...
